Little Green Apples

Out from under the apple tree,
Came a voice that said, “Hey! You’re just like me!”

My eyes darted towards its origin,
Just a little green apple, already slightly eaten.

So, I stared, and stared and stared some more,
I shot back “No way! You’re a perfect apple, and I’m just a bore.”

The voice spoke again, “But the truth is more than what we see!”
And somewhere deep inside, I knew that already.

I pondered the green apples again,
And considered seeing me as I saw them.

Every one of them was a miraculous gift to be adored!
Could it be we are the same at our core?

In my last post, I mentioned my obsessive tendencies, and green apples have definitely been a weird thing in my life. At one point in time, they were all I allowed myself to eat. I would just buy a bag, and that’d be it for the week.

Around 10-ish? years ago, when I bought my home, the determining factor was the backyard with the most beautiful green apple tree I had ever seen. I know I’m a bit odd, but I feel very connected to my apple tree. It has given me so much.

I sometimes wonder if it tracks back to my happier childhood memories. The happiest moments of my young life were when my big sister and I would put on music and sing and dance and be completely ridiculous. I specifically remember The Beatles’ album with the green apple. It was my favorite, and the image was so stark and simple. I loved it. I still do.

Apologies for my rambling.
This is in oil pastel, pretty obviously inspired by my current fave artist dude, René Magritte. It’s a little sloppy but that’s me! I wrote the poem first, and needed an image to go along 💚
